Crosshaven 0 : 1 Innishvilla
On 17/05/05 we lost top spot in the league that we held since the opening
day of the season back in August 04. It happened because Crosshaven played their remaining game in hand against Wilton
and had a whopping 10 : 1 win. This meant that they went two points clear of us with one game to play. The script could not
have been written better. What it all meant was that we had to travel to the lions den - down to Crosshaven on 21/05/05 and
needing to win the game to win the league! Any other result and Crosshaven were champions. We went in great heart because
we felt we did not do ourselves justice in our 1st encounter and we were eager to make amends. We had great support on the
day and we needed it because as usual they had a very big following. The game started in a frenzy and it was very competitive.
We were lucky when a shot from them came back of a post and was cleared to safety. But as the half went on we came well into
it and Tim was unlucky not to connect from a great free from Aidan. Soon after their keeper did well to stop a volley from
Donnacha. Amid great excitement the short whistle came and it remained 0 : 0. Crosshaven were definitely the happier side
at this stage, but I knew the lads were determined to give it everything to get the all important victory. The goal we
worked so hard to get came early in the 2nd half when Donnacha picked up the ball just outside the box and let fly high
into the far corner of the net giving the keeper no chance! Our supporters went wild. So now we had 20 minutes to go to hold
on to the lead and they threw everything at us lifted by a very vocal home following. But our lads showed tremendous courage
and fight and they defended all over the field. Gary was super
in goal as time ticked away and they had a number of corners but he caught everything that came his way. All 13 players involved
gave it everything to keep our precious lead and eventually after 5 minutes of injury time the ref finally blew the whistle
and the place went mad. Amid great scenes of joy the captain Philip Ryan was presented with the League Championship
trophy and we traveled back to the village and went in convoy west to the forge and back to the Westgate bar with the trophy
being displayed from the roof of a jeep! We had a great social evening where all the squad were treated to refreshments and
they all went home with their league winners medals around their necks! It was a super end to a great season which saw us
loosing and drawing only once out of 14 games. Well done to all involved.
Innishvilla 8 : 0 Greenwood
On 07/05/05 we played host to Greenwood A. It was a very important game for us because our rivals were playing their
games in hand and creeping up to us. The lads responded well and were full value for a 6 : 0 half time lead. Our goals came
from a number of different players and positions. We eased back a little in the 2nd half and brought on some subs but we ended
up with a super 8 : 0 victory. Philip got 3 goals, Aidan got 2, Richard, Cormac and Darragh got the others.
Everton 1 : 5 Innishvilla
On 23/04/05 we travelled to Togher to take on Everton and we needed to win to bounce back into contention for the title.
But we started badly and went 1 : 0 in the first attack by Everton. The lads showed their mettle very quickly and we soon
equalised through Philip Ryan. We continued to improve and ended the half 3 : 1 ahead. The second period was a little closer
and we introduced a number of subs. but we added to our tally and ran out 5 : 1 winners and we are back on track. A good performance
from all the lads was needed and we got it.
Innishvilla 0 : 1 Crosshaven
On 12/03/05 we played host to title challengers Crosshaven in a huge game for us. It was a difficult game with chances
very scarce and both defences on top. But mid-way through the 1st half they went ahead with a strike from outside the box.
It stayed this way to half time. Our lads began the 2nd half well and were unlucky not to get on level terms, and then they
got a very lucky second and we were really under pressure to get something out of the game. Even though the lads tried very
hard we could not get that all important 1st goal and they held on for a big result for them which tilted the odds in their
favour. It was our 1st defeat of the campaign and we will have to make amends if we want to win the league.
Greenwood 0 : 6 Innishvilla.
The U.11 team
returned to league action on 26/02/05 away to Greenwood A. We started with a full strength side and quickly got into our stride
and we were 2-0 up inside twenty minutes. The lads dealt well with a bumpy pitch and reached half time leading by three goals
to nil without Gary being troubled once in goal. We consolidated our lead early in the second half with a goal from Philip.
We then introduced a number of subs due to injuries. Mark Murphy, Luke Counihan, Cormac Wall, Tomas O'Brien and Mark Coughlan
all came in and did very well. Another goal from Donnacha and an own goal wrapped it up for us with five minutes left. So
a 6 - 0 victory keeps us top of the tree for another week. Well done to all the squad for another good performance. We now
have 10 games played in the league, 9 wins and 1 draw.
Innishvilla 1 : 1 Lakewood Athletic B (AET)
3 : 2
(Pens)
On 12/02/05 we played host to Lakewood Ath. B. in the 1st round of the U.11 cup. It was a bitterly cold day with very
strong winds gusting in all directions. This made it very difficult for both sides because the pitch was a bit on the sticky
side also. The 1st half was evenly contested but we got our noses in front courtesy of a Philip Ryan goal mid-way
through the half. Lakewood are a hard side to break down - they are the only side to take points off us so far this season. The
half time whistle saw us ahead by the only goal and we turned to play into a gale of wind. The lads worked very hard for possession
and were full value for our lead, but right at the death Lakewood equalised from a very dubious free kick. As soon as the
game resumed after the goal the final whistle blew. The lads were shell-shocked but they responded with great heart in extra
time but there were no more goals and so we entered a penalty shoot-out. We won the shoot-out 3-2 with Gary Farrell playing
superbly in goal, and so we advance to the 2nd. round of the competition. The lads performed very well in difficult conditions
and as usual showed great spirit to remain unbeaten in all competitions. We return to league action on 26/02/05 with an away
fixture to Greenwood at 10.30 am.
Wilton United 0 : 9 Innishvilla.
We resumed our league campaign on 29/01/05 after having a top of the table encounter with Crosshaven called off on 18/12/04
because the referee arrived late and the visitors refused to play. That's in the hands of the Schoolboys league. We also had
a cup tie cancelled because of bad weather.
Last Saturday we travelled to the F.A.I. grounds in Curraheen to play Wilton Utd. This is the former home of Cork City
FC and what a venue to create a bit of club history! The lads were very eager after the long lay off and they went about their
task with great gusto. We were on top all over the field and had a lovely cushion of a 5 - 0 lead at half-time. They began
the second half the same way as the first and quickly added to our tally. We then introduced a number of subs who all contributed
to a record breaking victory by nine goals to nil ! The goals were scored by a number of different players.I am reliably informed
that 9 - 0 is the highest victory margin ever recorded by the club. Well done to all the squad for a super performance that
now takes our tally to 9 played - 8 wins and 1 draw. We are still unbeaten and stay top of the league.
Lakewood Athletic 0 : 4 Innishvilla.
On Sat.6th
December we travelled for a top of the table clash with Lakewood Ath. @ 11.15am. The lads were really up for this game
for they wanted to put daylight between Lakewood and ourselves knowing that we have a very tough encounter with Crosshaven
looming. Within a couple of minutes of the start we had our noses in front with a goal from Mark Cronin. We continued to dominate
and had a 2nd goal from Donnacha O’Driscoll. Lakewood came more in to the game but they failed to breach Gary's goal.
Two great strikes from Philip Ryan sealed the points. We introduced a number of subs. They all did very well
and there is great competition for places in the team. It was another solid squad performance to keep our unbeaten record
and stay top of the league. Our next game is against Crosshaven on 18/12/04 at home @ 10.30am which is going to be our
toughest yet.
Strand United 1 : 8 Innishvilla.
On Saturday 20/11/04 we played our first away game of the season at Strand Utd. It was a wet, misty day with heavy
underfoot conditions and the grass a little bit on the long side. Within 60 seconds Donnacha had the first of his four goals
and this set the tone for the rest of the half. Apart from a couple of very good saves from Gary Farrell we were well on top
everywhere and we ended the half five goals to the good. The second half saw a number of subs come on and do very well and
we added three more goals. Strand had a solitary goal from the penalty spot. The final score was 8 -1 with Donnacha bagging
four, Philip getting two and Robert and David Lynch getting the others. Another fine display by all nineteen lads on the squad
to keep our record which now reads - seven played, six wins and one draw. Our next game is on 04/12/04 @ 11.15am away to Lakewood
Athletic B.
Innishvilla 2 : 0 Avondale A.
On 6/11/04 our lads were at home to Avondale A in a return fixture having won the first encounter 3-0. We had a strong
team in action and we needed it as Avondale were working hard to get revenge and both teams were evenly matched with chances
very scarce as both defences were on top. The breakthrough came midway through the first half with Donnacha O' Driscoll scoring
with a bullet to the top corner from a free kick on the edge of the penalty area. Gary then made a couple of good saves and
we had a few chances to increase our lead before the short whistle but it stayed 1-0 at half time. The second half was also
very even with both sides having chances but Innishvilla had the better of the exchanges. We introduced a number of subsand
they helped to lift our performance a bit and we got a second goal with a great strike from Eoin Fallon. We ran out comfortable
winners in the end to maintain our unbeaten run, and had solid performances from all the lads. Our next game is away to Strand
Utd. On 20/11/04 @1.30pm.
Innishvilla 8 : 0 Everton.
On Saturday morning
09/10/04 we had yet another home game, this time against Everton. The lads played the first half attacking the road end goal,
which gave them the advantage of a very strong wind at their backs. They used this assistance to the full by cracking in seven
goals without reply in the half. They were on top in all areas of the field with the whole team in top form. Goals from Donnacha
O Driscoll - 2, Philip Ryan, Robert Slyne, Aidan Walsh, Tim Cummins and Gavin Kerr made the outcome a foregone conclusion
at the short whistle. Aidan went off just before the break with a knee injury and was replaced by Cormac Wall. David Lynch
also came on for Gavin who ran himself into the ground. Everton battled hard in the second half aided by the strong wind but
it was Innishvilla who hit the net again through Darragh Murphy. Everton were awarded a dubious penalty in the dying moments
but they failed to convert it so our lads ran out convincing winners by eight goals to nil. We were about to introduce our
remaining four subs. when the ref. blew for time with six or seven minutes left by our watches. Hopefully these lads will
get a run the next day. Another great performance by all the lads to keep our unbeaten record intact. All fifteen lads that
got on the pitch did their part in this emphatic win. It now reads - 5 played. - 4 wins and 1 draw. Bring on the next team!!!
Innishvilla 3 : 0 Avondale A
On Sat. 25.09.04 we played an away game versus Avondale A at home because of a problem with their pitch. The lads started
brightly with Donnacha O Driscoll, Gavin Kerr and Philip Ryan all going close but then Avondale had some chances themselves
but Gary Farrell was safe in goal.Mid way through the half good work by Donnacha and Philip resulted in a great cross coming
in from the left which was met on the volley by Robert Slyne for the lead goal. The lads kept up the tempo and five minutes
later Donnacha had made it 2-0. We were well on top at this stage and Philip added a third before the break. A great first
half performance had given us a 3-0 lead but the second half turned out to be much more even. Avondale got more involved and
had a few good chances but Gary was equal to them while at the other end Robert, Donnacha and Darragh Murphy all had chances
to increase our lead. The game ended 3-0 which in the end was a fair reflection of our dominance for the 60 minutes play. It
was a solid display with good performances from all with Gary Farrell,Gavin Kerr and Darragh Murphy catching the eye.We now
have three wins and a draw from our four games to date,- a great start by all the squad.

On a very wet Sat .Morning the U11 team put up a battling performance to gain a valuable point against a good Lakewood
side. In testing conditions our lads took the lead through Donnacha O'Driscoll midway through the first half but Lakewood
put in a strong finish to the half and equalised on the stroke of halftime. Our lads dominated most of the second half and
could have added one or two goals more but our luck deserted us on the day and the game finished 1-1.We had good performances
from Tim Cummins, Mark Cronin and sub. Darragh Murphy.
